About the Role
This role is designed for someone at the beginning of their commercial career – a recent graduate or career professional with the potential to grow into a Junior National Account Manager, National Account Manager, Commercial Manager and beyond. You don’t need to know everything on day one, but you’ll need curiosity, confidence, and a strong foundation in numerical thinking.
As a National Account Executive, you’ll play a vital role in supporting both our senior commercial team and their accounts and managing smaller customer accounts directly. You’ll handle key administrative tasks for our major national accounts, as well as develop hands-on experience owning secondary customer relationships, building supplier partnerships, and contributing to sales planning and forecasting.
What You’ll Be Doing
Major Account Administration (Support to Senior Commercial Manager):
- Support the day-to-day running of major customer accounts through effective admin and coordination.
- Prepare presentations, contact reports, and internal communications.
- Liaise with customers and suppliers to gather key commercial and product information.
- Manage documentation processes including new line forms and pricing updates.
- Ensure timely communication with supply chain and finance teams regarding availability, pricing, and logistics.
- Help monitor and report on account activity, highlighting key updates across the business.
- Maintain accurate records and support with wider cross-functional projects and updates.
Secondary Account Management (With Support):
- Take ownership of smaller secondary customer accounts, with support from the Senior Commercial Manager.
- Build positive customer relationships, ensuring their needs are understood and acted upon.
- Coordinate day-to-day activities, maintain regular contact, and respond quickly to any issues.
- Support sales planning and proactively identify ways to drive customer performance.
- Support supplier relationship management, in collaboration with NPD (new product development) negotiation supplier pricing, and commercials.
- Identify gaps or opportunities for new product listings or enhancements based on customer feedback and insight.
- Work closely with internal teams (NPD, finance, supply chain) to align on feasibility, pricing, and timelines.
- Help develop strategic plans for sales opportunities, monitoring key trends.
- Maintain and monitor your channel P&L, taking ownership of tracking key metrics, updating internal trackers, and flagging variances or risks— seeking final sign-off on next steps from the Senior Commercial Manager and Commercial Director.
- Prepare sales performance reports, customer feedback summaries, and market insight documents for internal use.
What You’ll Bring
You don’t need to tick every box from day one — we’re more interested in your potential, mindset, and motivation to grow. We understand that if you’re early in your career, you may not have had the chance to apply certain skills in a professional setting just yet.
That’s okay. What matters most is your ability to recognise and demonstrate the strengths you’ve developed in other ways — whether that’s through your studies, part-time work, volunteering, or simply how you show up in everyday life.
Below is an overview of the traits and behaviours that will set you up for success in this role. We’ll be looking for examples of how you show them, even outside of a traditional office environment.
Core Strengths
- Numerical confidence – you’re comfortable working with data and spreadsheets, able to keep trackers up to date and spot when something looks off.
- Strong communicator – you can explain things clearly, ask the right questions, and hold your own in conversations with both customers and suppliers.
- Organised and dependable – you follow through on tasks, keep information tidy, and help others stay in the loop.
- Curious and proactive – you want to understand how things work, you notice opportunities, and you take ownership of your part in making things happen.
- Emotionally intelligent – you can read the room, adapt your tone, and build positive working relationships.
Experience and Interest
- You might have completed a relevant degree (e.g. Business, Marketing, Economics) and/or a placement, internship or another role where you picked up some practical admin or commercial experience.
- You can have keen interest in food and the food industry.
- You enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and have a genuine interest in how products move from supplier to customer.
- You’re comfortable using Excel, PowerPoint and general business systems.
- If you’ve had exposure to FMCG, wholesale, retail or a supply chain environment, that’s a plus – but not essential.
What Will Help You Thrive
- You’re someone who wants to learn – from your manager, your peers, and from real-life commercial scenarios.
- You’re open to feedback and willing to step out of your comfort zone.
- You’re direct, honest and practical – people trust you to get things done.
- You’re excited by the idea of growing into a customer-facing commercial role and building a career in sales.
